In the senior block yr 7 - 8 student’s now have a literacy a rotation in the mornings. All classes in the senior area participate, we got shared a survey on the first thing we wanted to do, only a minimum amount of people are allowed in a group. The choices are: Kowhaiwhai (Maori Art), Movie making, Silent sustained writing and literacy.
For the first week around I chose Kowhaiwhai with Miss Tito. Miss Tito shared a few tips with us, she told us to keep our hands relaxed free our minds, instead of thinking about what It’ll look like, just let your hands do it. We practised by drawing Korus (Maori Pattern) and simply filling a page full of them. After all that practise we moved onto the real hard bits and that was drawing a simple pattern and cutting them out. Then came Kowhaiwhai our next rotation with Miss Tito a few students will get picked and will do their design on wood, which will be displayed in our senio area.
My second rotation I’ve participated in was with Miss Langitupu and that is silent sustained writing. We had to write a fiction narrative starting off with ‘It was It was a cold, dark, gloomy night. I stumbled upon an abandoned hut deep in the heart of the forest....’ I finished an interesting narrative on that, you can read it on my blog.
The last rotation I participated in so far was with Mrs Nua with her we do literacy. I learned alot from this group I learned new vocabulary. Did you know the way our food is being processed is putting our air endangered with pollutions? All the gas from the greenhouses causes global warming increasing.
I’ve enjoyed the rotations I have participated in this week and the previous week. It’s a fun and more interesting way of starting the day every morning! We’re gaining confidence and practise for college coming up! Starting school at 8:30am every morning really does motivate us for college and also doing fun learning in rotations is really cool!
